This is probably the most elegant of towns on the amalfi coast and one of the most inspired areas it has hosted a selection of important hosts from wagner greta garbo Winston Churchill the kennedy family
Just for it mere beauty
has appealed for centuries to writers, artists, musicians, travellers… and dreamers! Boccaccio, D. H. Lawrence and Wagner are among the “greats” who succumbed to the spell of Ravello. Wagner partly composed his opera “Parsifal” here, and today author Gore Vidal lives and derives inspiration from this charming town.
to find yourself at Villa Rufolo.where every year great concerts are held with acclaimed artists from all over the world choose to take their repertoire to ravello. The Beautiful gardens with views across the mountains and the Coast below. The charms of Ravello also captivated an Englishman, Lord Grimthorpe, who built the Villa Cimbrone early this century with the help of his valet, Nicola Mansi, a native of Ravello. Together they transformed an ancient villa, enriching it with antiques, paintings and relics collected from all over Italy. Today the gardens of Villa Cimbrone are a Mediterranean sanctuary.

We shall go to the roots of this marvellous city. Discovering the greatest of Emperors, the succession of Popes, the ruins of Imperial Rome and the masterpieces of Michelangelo and Bernini.
We will meet by the boat and within 45-50 min we shall be in the heart of Rome. Our first stop will be The Palatine Hill. Here we will have the possibility to appreciate the scenic view overlooking Circus Maximus. Some may recognize this location as where they shot the movie “Ben Hur” in 1959, one of the most admired films concerning Ancient Rome.
From Circus Maximus we will be able to easily carry on and shortly reach the most well-known monument in Rome, the Coliseum. We have just come upon the domain of the gladiators where we shall enter into the glorious structure without waiting any lines or queues. After absorbing the vastness and enormity of this monument, whose walls could tell such wicked tales, we will then proceed on towards the car. We will be able to see the Roman Forum, Venezia Square, the Spanish Steps, the Fountain of Trevi, and Navona Square. Not excluding The Pantheon, a truly mystical structure of which Michelangelo spoke of when he first saw it in the early 1500’s, with these words, “angelic and not of human design.”

At this point we will give ourselves an energy boost by stopping to have lunch, Roman style. Bruschette, pasta, and coffee. Then we are off to stroll through the Vatican Museums with its world famous Sistine Chapel. Here we will find some of Michelangelo’s most prominent works and then later to St. Peter’s Cathedral, the most outstanding church in Christendom.
This service is carried out exclusively by your personal driver and guide. He or she will accompany you internally through the Vatican Museums and then return with you to the vehicle.
In general the entrance and tour through the museum is better managed between the hours of 1:30pm and 2:00pm

Herculaneum
This smaller part of the eruption is sometime forgotten but archaeologist find it to be much more of importance firstly the ruins are so preserved that even the loaf of bread has managed to survive these 2000 year of life

When Vesuvius erupted on 24 August 79 AD it engulfed the two flourishing Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as the many rich villas in the area. Since the mid 18th century these have been progressively uncovered and made accessible to the public.
The vast expanse of the commercial town of Pompeii contrasts with the restricted but better preserved remains of the holiday resort of Herculaneum, whilst the superb wall paintings of the Villa Oplontis at Torre Annunziata give a vivid impression of the opulent life-style of the wealthier citizens of the early Roman Empire.
It’s an old city near the Vesuvious descents. In 79 a.C. was totally covered by lava; later discovered again by Grecian, and dedicated to ercole in 1709. The excavations were inordinate and still today uncompleted, but we could admire a theatre and some thermal baths.

Tour description:
Your ItalyTraveller Private Excursion port shore trip into the hidden beauty of Paestum and the Pertosa grottos, what a better way to spend a day if you are an experienced cruiser and have enjoyed the many times arriving into the port of Naples and other ports in the area
What to expect from this Day
Paestum is an excursion day which you should consider…Why? You ask yourself I have already seen the Amalfi Coast the great archaeological sites what else is there to consider for my Port Excursion Paestum of course

What and where is Paestum
Paestum was founded over 2,500 years ago by the Greeks, who were attracted by the sweeping, flat countryside and rich soil which was ideal for farming – still a thriving industry here. They built three beautiful, columned temples (not unlike the Pantheon in Greece) which are fairly intact to this day and many Greek artefacts which have been discovered in this area are on display in the museum there.

Pertosa Grottos
Not much further South, you’ll find the natural, 35 million year-old caves called “Angel’s Grottoes” where the sunken river Negro has created a small, underground lake. The caves stretch for about 3,000 metres underground and were first discovered in the late 19th century when many ancient items made from stone, bone and metal were also found there.
Lets take you on a cultural experience 3000,00 years back into time you private driver will meet you at the port with a name card and enjoy a relaxing drive through the Amalfi Coast area.

Pompeii
This is a must… if you are arriving into the area of Naples or amalfi coast then you must place a tick on your agenda to get to see Pompeii it’s so important
Because it covers 2000 years of history and you can actually walk through the ruins and imagine being there 2000 years ago,
Pompeii itself to enjoy a Pompeii tour a little description on the area
Pompeii was buried in one of the most disastrous volcanic eruptions in history.
The ruins of the dead city are deeply moving, for the Romans seen still to people it in the deep silence.
The centre of the modern town is the shrine of the Madonna del Rosario, an interesting basilica of the 19th century, which has become an important pilgrimage centre. On the left of the sanctuary there is the small Vesuvious Museum, where you can see samples of the volcanic matter ejected from Vesuvious with lithographs and photographs tracing the various eruptions and scenes from the life of ancient Pompeii. From the bell-tower there is a splendid view of the dead city.
The eruption of Vesuvious destroyed also Herculaneum and Stabiae in August 79. The younger Pliny, watched the cataclysm from Cape Miseno and give a description of the scene which has become classic. Pompeii was rediscovered at the end of the 16th century by the architect Fontana; however it was only in 1748 that systematic excavation began. Here the works have been less arduous than in Herculaneum as the volcanic matter was not so deep.

The Pompeian House
There are several types of dwellings in Pompeii. Very particular is the type of house inspired by Greek designs richly decorated with a larger number of rooms. The roman dwellings are instead more limited but they have more refinement in garden lay-out.
